Franklin County

Columbus, OH

From century-old brick to new build — the full range of Central Ohio properties.

Columbus covers more architectural variety than the rest of our service area combined, from pre-war brick homes on tight urban lots to new suburban construction on the outer edges. What connects them is the same glacial-till clay and the same freeze-thaw cycle, which is why the base preparation under a patio matters just as much on a narrow city lot as it does on an acre.

The Area

The Constraint Is Usually Access, Not Space

On established Columbus lots the limiting factor is rarely the design — it is getting material and equipment into the back yard. Narrow side yards, alley access, fences, and neighbouring structures shape both the method and the price, and a contractor who has not accounted for that will discover it on the first morning. We assess access as part of the estimate so the schedule and the quote reflect reality.

  • Access assessed before quoting

Side-yard width, gates, alleys, and overhead obstructions checked up front, because they determine whether material moves by machine or by wheelbarrow.

  • Small spaces reward good design

Compact urban yards need every square foot working. Careful layout matters more here than it does where space is abundant.

  • Built for Central Ohio clay

Glacial-till clay holds water, and water that freezes lifts whatever sits on top of it. Excavation depth, compacted base, and drainage are standard scope on every hardscape project rather than optional extras.

Local Considerations

What We Plan For on Columbus Properties

The practical realities of building on established city lots.

Tight-Access Logistics

Side yards, gates, and alleys measured before quoting so the method and the price reflect how material actually reaches the work area.

Small-Space Layout

Compact yards designed so the patio, planting, and circulation coexist without any one of them crowding the others out.

Mature Urban Canopy

Established street and yard trees mean shade planting and root-aware excavation on a large share of older lots.

Period-Appropriate Materials

Material choices that suit brick and stone architecture rather than defaulting to whatever suits a new build.

Drainage Between Close Structures

Water routed carefully where houses sit near one another and there is little room for error in the pitch.

Neighbour-Aware Scheduling

Material staging, parking, and cleanup planned with the fact that close neighbours are affected by the work.

These guys are great! If i could give 10 stars, i would. They fully designed and built all brand new beds in front of our house. The process was simple and completely painless for us. We could not be happier with the results and will definitely have them back soon to do our back yard.

Local FAQ

Columbus, Answered

Questions specific to working on properties in this area. General service questions are answered on each service page.

Our back yard has no machine access. Can you still build a patio?

Usually yes. Plenty of city lots are built entirely with material moved by hand through a side yard or gate. It affects labour and therefore price, so we assess access during the estimate and price it honestly rather than discovering it on the first morning.

Our yard is tiny. Is it worth doing anything?

Small yards often benefit most, because every square foot is visible and in use. A well-proportioned patio with the right planting around it can make a compact space genuinely usable in a way a large yard does not require as much care to achieve.
