Bed Structure From Scratch
Shaped bed lines and layered planting to give a builder landscape genuine definition.
Fairfield County
Fast-growing southeast suburbs with newer homes and young landscapes.
Pickerington sits at the southeastern edge of our service range, in one of the faster-growing parts of the metro. Housing here skews newer, which means landscapes are young, builder-installed, and generally short on structure — plenty of lawn, minimal bed definition, and often no hardscape behind the house at all.
The Area
A newer home usually arrives with a functional but generic landscape: a strip of foundation shrubs, sod to the property line, and nothing else. Nothing is wrong with it, and nothing about it is memorable either. Adding bed structure, layered planting, and a patio is what converts a builder landscape into something that belongs to the house — and because the material is young, there is little to remove first.
Young landscapes mean most of the budget goes into new work rather than removing what is already there.
Recent building work leaves subsoil dense and poorly drained. Preparation before planting genuinely determines the outcome.
Glacial-till clay holds water, and water that freezes lifts whatever sits on top of it. Excavation depth, compacted base, and drainage are standard scope on every hardscape project rather than optional extras.
Local Considerations
Common conditions on newer construction across the area.
Shaped bed lines and layered planting to give a builder landscape genuine definition.
New patios on homes sold with a back door and nothing behind it.
Compacted subsoil broken up and prepared so new planting and lawn can actually root.
Thin builder sod or seeded areas corrected with proper grading and preparation.
Grading checked and corrected where builder rough-grading leaves water sitting near the foundation.
Fresh mulch and defined edges — the fastest way to make a young landscape look established.
Michael is the real deal! They are incredibly skilled in their craft and made the entire process incredibly easy for us. With a fantastic crew and exceptional work, you would expect it to take longer to complete the job, but that was not the case. They were incredibly quick, and I am extremely happy with the outcome of my new backyard patio. It is even better than I could have imagined!

Local FAQ
Questions specific to working on properties in this area. General service questions are answered on each service page.
Not at all — and in some ways it is the ideal time. There is little to tear out, so the budget goes into new work, and getting bed structure and hardscape in early means the planting matures into a plan rather than being retrofitted around one.
Usually yes, and it should be dealt with rather than lived with. Builder rough-grading frequently leaves inadequate fall away from the house. Correcting the grade and routing water properly is standard work and best done before it affects the foundation.
