Upper Arlington, OH

Mature oak canopy, tight access, and hardscape old enough to need real attention.

Upper Arlington — often just called Arlington locally — is among the most established settings we work in. Much of the housing stock predates the post-war suburbs entirely, the tree canopy is genuinely mature, and a great deal of the original hardscape has now been through many decades of Ohio freeze-thaw. The work here leans heavily toward restoration and shade.

The Area

Older Properties, Older Hardscape

When a patio or walkway has been in the ground for decades, the questions change. Is the base still sound, or has it finally given way? Is this a cleaning and re-sanding job or a genuine rebuild? Meanwhile the canopy that makes these streets attractive has thickened over the same decades, so planting that thrived when it went in may now be sitting in far deeper shade than it was designed for.

  • Restoration assessed honestly

Plenty of older hardscape is structurally fine and simply tired. We will tell you when cleaning and re-sanding is genuinely enough rather than quoting a rebuild by default.

  • Access planned in advance

Narrow drives, established fencing, and tight side yards limit equipment, so method and price are worked out before the first morning.

  • Built for Central Ohio clay

Glacial-till clay holds water, and water that freezes lifts whatever sits on top of it. Excavation depth, compacted base, and drainage are standard scope on every hardscape project rather than optional extras.

Local Considerations

What We Plan For on Upper Arlington Properties

The realities of building and restoring on long-established lots.

Decades-Old Hardscape

Assessment of whether an existing patio or walk can be restored or has reached genuine base failure — with a straight answer either way.

Deep Mature Shade

Thickened canopy means planting decisions based on today’s light levels, not what the bed received when it was first planted.

Root-Aware Excavation

Specimen trees are a large part of what makes these streets desirable. Excavation is routed to protect them.

Constrained Access

Narrow side yards and established fencing planned around, often meaning hand-moved material and adjusted staging.

Materials That Suit the Architecture

Colour and texture chosen to sit with older brick and stone rather than reading as an obvious modern insert.

Heavy Autumn Leaf Load

Mature canopy produces genuine volume. Bed cleanup here is substantial seasonal work.

Michael is the real deal! They are incredibly skilled in their craft and made the entire process incredibly easy for us. With a fantastic crew and exceptional work, you would expect it to take longer to complete the job, but that was not the case. They were incredibly quick, and I am extremely happy with the outcome of my new backyard patio. It is even better than I could have imagined!

Local FAQ

Upper Arlington, Answered

Questions specific to working on properties in this area. General service questions are answered on each service page.

Do you cover Arlington as well as Upper Arlington?

They are the same place — Upper Arlington is the municipality, and Arlington is the shorthand most locals use. Either way, yes, we serve it.

Our patio is decades old. Is it worth restoring?

Frequently, yes. If the field is stable and the issues are faded colour, washed-out joints, weeds, and a few settled pavers, cleaning, resetting, and sealing costs far less than replacement and buys years. If the base itself has failed, we will tell you plainly that restoration is only a short-term fix.

Can you work in a yard with very limited access?

Yes. Tight side yards and narrow drives are normal here. It changes how material is moved and therefore what the labour costs, which is why we assess access during the estimate rather than after.
